The Original Mickey Mouse Club Show

Road Trips #2

"Road Trips" will be an irregular series of articles on contemporary visits to places and events of interest to fans of the original Mickey Mouse Club. For this second entry Chief Mousekereporter Randall Nakashima takes in a performance celebrating the Baby Boomer Generation featuring Nancy Abbate.

Boomer Legacy
March 9, 2018, Baldwin Park CA

Last March I attended a show put on by the Baldwin Park School District, Creative Drama Department, entitled Boomer Legacy. The show featured Mouseketeer Nancy Abbate.

This was the second show I attended with Nancy, the first being a review of American popular culture during the first half of the 20th Century. Last night's show focused on the Baby Boomer generation and life from the 50's to the 80's. Although the show was rough in spots, it afforded Nancy an opportunity to dance.

For those of you who have never met Mouseketeer Nancy, she is the epitome of the word "Trouper." Although she has had numerous tragedies in her life, she is always resilient and always bounces back. She has taught dance most of her life, and in fact, still teaches dance with a former student.

I'm including short clips of her solo tap and her disco dance with a partner. It's a nice change to have clips and not need a dance consultant for the description. Reflecting on the clips, I would really like to have seen her dance when disco was in vogue.
